“We can’t let the children have all the fun!”
Mum and Dad’s want to get in on the fun and others want to get involved to further improve their performance in other sports. Adults gymnastics is designed to develop core strength using gymnastics skills in a structured safe manner under the guidance of our expert team of coaches. Adults work to their own abilities using the various gymnastics apparatus with an emphasis on strength, conditioning, flexibility, and body awareness. It is our goal to give all our adults the most rounded experience of gymnastics and develop their own gymnastics potential which can be a great advantage for participation in other sports or simply as an exciting fitness tool, and most of all have fun!
Who is it for?
This class is for men and women aged 18+.
What are the benefits?
Gymnastics is a great sport to improve strength, flexibility, body awareness, confidence. It provides a good movement foundation for transferring to other sports too.
Do I need to have done gymnastics before?
No previous experience is required to join Adult Gymnastics. We cater for beginners up to ex-gymnasts and coaches. No experience is necessary, many of our current members in our sister club Sugarloaf Gymnastics have come through our doors, very shy, having never done a tumble before and after the first class or after a couple of weeks have left having performed a cartwheel, handstand or a front somersault! We also have had many adults attend class who have definitely missed their true calling as a gymnast!
What happens in a typical class?
Class kicks off with an easy group cardio warm up with some body conditioning mixed in. We then stretch out to prepare for working on the apparatus. We spread our time out between all of the apparatus; Bars, Beam, Floor, Vault, Trampoline and Fast Track. We finish off with a gentle stretch and cool down at the end. Please note that we teach purely gymnastics skills, beginning with the mastering the basics and then advancing the skills. We do not teach calisthenics or parkour.
What should I expect?
A lot of laughing! Some nerves are normal but after warm up our coaches will run through some landing drills with you and encourage you to take 5 – 10 mins to try out the equipment before joining in the structured class.
Are you going to try to teach me crazy things?
Not at all, we keep within your comfort zone but encourage you to bounce outside it just a little bit. For example we work on cartwheels, handstands, swings on the bars, walking on the beam and work our way up more difficult skills when both your body and mind are ready! Our classes are structured and taught by the coaches.
What should I bring?
A sense of humour and an open mind! We do recommend trying class out with a friend also and bringing a bottle of water.
What should I wear?
Leotards are not compulsory but if you really want to…! Wear something comfortable, for women we recommend leggings and a tshirt and for men fitted tracksuit bottoms or shorts and a t-shirt.
